The North London (Thursday) Bowling Association was formed in 1927 by a group of shop keepers.. Early meetings were regularly held in the Owl House Pub, which was situated next to North Middlesex Hospital, opposite Pymmes Park in Edmonton. As Thursday was early closing day this was an ideal time to enjoy a game of Bowls and meet with fellow traders. Had the shop opening hours of today be in force, the association may never have been formed.
Today we have some 20 affiliated clubs. The Association runs its own league which is divided into in two groups, the winner of each group plays for the Cornish Shield, which is naturally played on a Thursday evening. We also run individual Competitions which are open to all members of Affiliated Clubs. Representative games are played throughout the year both indoors and out. These are played against Clubs or Associations.
